Privacy Policy

This policy explains which data is processed when you visit blankwise.app and when you use the Blankwise app. The short version: as little as possible. The website sets no tracking cookies, and the app does not send your content to us.

2. What we don't do

We use no advertising networks, no cross-site tracking, no profiling and no automated decision-making. The website's fonts are served from our own server; no connection to Google Fonts or any other font provider is made.

3. Hosting and server logs

The website is hosted by Hetzner Online GmbH, Industriestraße 25, 91710 Gunzenhausen, Germany, in its Falkenstein data center (Germany). A data processing agreement pursuant to Art. 28 GDPR is in place with Hetzner.

When you access the website, the server automatically processes technical access data: IP address, date and time, the page requested, the amount of data transferred, the referrer, and browser and operating system identifiers. This data is required to deliver the page and to defend against attacks, and is kept only as long as needed for secure operation. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in secure and stable operation (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

4. Visitor statistics with Plausible Analytics

To understand how the website is used, we run Plausible Analytics. We host Plausible ourselves on our own server at pls.petersmann.dev; no data is transferred to Plausible the company or to any other third party.

Plausible works without cookies and without persistent identifiers. No personal data is stored. Your IP address is used only transiently to derive a non-reversible hash for the current day and is not retained. Only aggregated values are recorded: page views, referrers, country, device type, browser and clicks on outbound links (such as the App Store). The legal basis is our legitimate interest in privacy-friendly reach measurement (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

If you would rather not be counted even anonymously, you can switch this off in your browser by setting localStorage.plausible_ignore = "true" in the developer console.

5. Cookies and local storage

The website sets no cookies for analytics or advertising. If you switch the language using the toggle, a cookie named NEXT_LOCALE is set that stores nothing but your language choice. It is technically necessary for the function you requested (§ 25(2) no. 2 TDDDG) and expires at the end of the browser session. The playground on the start page processes your input entirely in the browser; nothing is transmitted or stored.

6. Contact by email

If you email us, we process your address and the content of your message in order to answer it. Depending on the request, the legal basis is pre-contractual communication (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR) or our legitimate interest in responding to enquiries (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Messages are deleted once the matter is settled and no statutory retention obligations apply.

7. App Store links

The website links to Apple's App Store. When you click such a link you leave our website; from that point on the privacy policies of Apple Inc. and Apple Distribution International Ltd. apply. No data is sent to Apple before you click.

8. The Blankwise app

The app stores your templates, collections and settings locally on your device. No account with us is needed to use it, and the app contains no analytics or tracking.

If you enable iCloud sync, your data is stored in a private CloudKit container inside your own Apple account and kept in sync between your devices. Apple is responsible for that storage, and the privacy terms of your Apple account apply. We have no access to this data and cannot read it. You can turn sync off at any time in the app's settings.

The rewrite feature uses the language model on your device. Your text does not leave the device for it.

9. Your rights

You have the right to access the data concerning you (Art. 15 GDPR), to rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20) and to object to processing based on legitimate interests (Art. 21). Any consent you have given can be withdrawn at any time with effect for the future. An informal email to hello@blankwise.app is enough.

10. Right to lodge a complaint

You have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR). The authority responsible for us is the Hamburg Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (Der Hamburgische Beauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit), Ludwig-Erhard-Straße 22, 20459 Hamburg, Germany. You may also contact the authority where you live.

11. Changes to this policy

We update this policy when data processing changes, for example through new features of the app or the website. The version published here applies.
